You’re invited to join us for our major celebration of photography, the 2023 APA Exhibition and Event Program. This year we’re more excited than ever to present our finalist exhibition, five insightful dialogues between artists, curators and picture editors alongside industry presentations and the opportunity to bring our community together.

Presented by Photo Collective in collaboration with Nikon Australia, Collarts, Canson Infinity, Kayell Australia and HC Pro, the 2023 APA Event Program is an exciting collection of dialogues delving deep into the ways that Australian photographic artists are innovating in the spaces of collaboration and visual storytelling.

Held in front of live audiences in Naarm/Melbourne, registration is essential to attend these events in person so be sure to register now so as not to miss out. All events will also be streamed for free online to our Youtube channel using the Nikon Z system.

Judith Nangala Crispin & Morganna Magee | New Dialogues at Centre for Contemporary Photography

We are excited to present this chapter which will facilitate a dialogue between 2023 APA committee member Judith Nangala Crispin and photographic artist Morganna Magee. Judith and Morganna will be reflecting on their collective history of artistic practice, discussing upcoming projects and considering the role of place within their bodies of work.

APA 2023 Awards Ceremony | Bodriggy Brewpub

Official proceedings 12pm – 1pm
Afterparty 1pm – Late

Join us for the live winners announcement and main ceremony of the 2023 Australian Photography Awards, supported by Nikon Australia, Collarts, Canson Infinity, Kayell Australia and HC Pro. This showcase of finalists from APA 2023 will culminate in the live announcements of the prize recipients from each of our major categories along with a series of dialogues between winners and committee members. The event will be a fantastic opportunity for our community to come together and celebrate Australian photography.

Following the event you are invited to stay on and continue to enjoy the evening. Following official proceedings there will be live music, specialty drinks, food and a showcase of the shortlist galleries via large-scale projection. The awards ceremony coincides with the APA Exhibition, an immersive display printed on Canson Infinity paper and showcased throughout the weekend at Bodriggy Brewpub.

John Feely & Aishah Kenton | New Dialogues at Bodriggy Brewpub

We are excited to present this chapter which will facilitate a dialogue between Australian photographic artists and 2023 APA committee members John Feely and Aishah Kenton. John and Aishah will be discussing their unique approaches to documentary photography, along with a broader discussion on contemporary photographic practice.

Jo Duck | In Conversation & Film Screening at Bodriggy Brewpub

12.00pm – 1.00pm

In collaboration between photographer Jo Duck and Photo Collective, we invite you to join us for this special event supported by Nikon Australia, Collarts, Canson Infinity and Kayell Australia.

This event will open with the screening of a new short film exploring Jo’s creative approach to photography and feature a conversation between herself, filmmaker Angus Scott and Kayell Australia’s Michael Marlborough.

There will be time for conversation and questions from the audience, with special demonstrations by industry representatives. This will be a unique opportunity to discover how one of Australia’s leading photographic artists creates award winning work. We hope to see you there.

Serena Dzenis on Environment | New Dialogues at Bodriggy Brewpub

We are excited to present this chapter which will facilitate a dialogue between Australian photographic artist and 2023 APA committee member Serena Dzenis and finalists from the 2023 APA Environment category. Serena will lead this discussion exploring environmental photography and the ways that artists utilise natural and constructed landscapes in their storytelling.

Anu Kumar, Nicholas Walton-Healey & Ruiqi Qiu | New Dialogues at Bodriggy Brewpub

We are excited to present this chapter which will facilitate a dialogue between Australian photographic artists and 2023 APA committee members Anu Kumar, Nicholas Walton-Healey and Ruiqi Qiu. Anu, Nicholas and Ruiqi will be each showing recent photographic projects, and discussing their individual approaches to bringing these bodies of work to life.
