Elias Redstone

Elias Redstone is the Founder and Artistic Director of PHOTO Australia and PHOTO International Festival of Photography, Melbourne. PHOTO 2021 and PHOTO 2022 were seen by over 250,000 people and featured artists including Zanele Muholi, Cindy Sherman, Paul Mpagi Sepuya, Gillian Wearing, Mohamed Bourouissa and Hoda Afshar. He is the Commissioning Editor for PHOTO Editions (Photo Australia and Perimeter Editions) which has published the first photobooks by Atong Atem and Honey Long & Prue Stent. As an independent curator, Elias has conceived and delivered critically-acclaimed exhibitions including Constructing Worlds: Photography and Architecture in the Modern Age (2014) at the Barbican Art Gallery, London, with Berenice Abbott, Bernd & Hilla Becher, Andreas Gursky and Ed Ruscha, amongst others. He curated Chen Wei: The Club (2017) at the Centre for Contemporary Photography, Melbourne, and the touring exhibition Archizines (2011-15) which was presented in 34 cities across five continents. He was previously Curator of the Polish Pavilion at the 2010 Venice Biennale and Senior Curator at the Architecture Foundation, London. His book Shooting Space: Architecture in Contemporary Photography was published by Phaidon and features 50 artists including Annie Leibovitz, Wolfgang Tillmans, Catherine Opie and Thomas Ruff. He is Australia Editor for Wallpaper*, has edited publications for Prestel, Sternberg Press and Bedford Press, and acted as a contributing editor for Arena Homme Plus and GQ Style.
