Presented by Photo Collective in collaboration with Nikon Australia, Canson Infinity, Kayell Australia and Photoplay Photography, New Dialogues in Photography is an exciting seminar series delving deep into the ways that Australian photographic artists are innovating in the spaces of collaboration and visual storytelling.
We are excited to present this chapter which will facilitate a dialogue between National Geographic photographer Michaela Skovranova and picture editor of The Age, Danie Sprague. Both APA 2022 committee members, Michaela and Danie will be discussing their impressions of the photographs they saw this year, the relationship between artist and editor as well as a broader conversation around the future of editorial photography in Australia.
Held in front of a live audience in Naarm/Melbourne, the event will also be streamed online using the Nikon Z system. Registration is essential for this free event, so be sure to register now so as not to miss out.

Over the past 17 years of my career here, I have witnessed the evolution of newsrooms which have changed significantly, moving into digital and online publishing with continued dedication to our print media daily editions of our national mastheads. Managing a team of some of Australia’s most talented, award winning photographers, my daily challenge is to promote our photographic content to inspire, inform, enlighten, enrage and be relevant and reflective of a culture and larger society while reporting and visually presenting the daily news cycle and meeting the changing demands of our readership. Former partner and publisher of bespoke print publication, The Dura – a unique periodical in large format A3 black and white, celebrating photography and imagery alongside long form features of both a historical and contemporary nature. I have a love and appreciation of photography and print publishing.
